This is Richard D James' paragon achievement in terms of technical accuracy. This is shown right from the offset as the first track on the album, the aptly titled 'Acrid Avid Jam Shred' puts the listener in their place about what kind of album this is- effortlessly mathematical; allegedly RDJ did not use any mathematical caclulations as other IDM artists have done in the past to create such works, but this album still emanates excellence despite this.
The other tracks on the album are similar in tone and style. However, do not be put off by this record's will to stray away from the usual Aphex 'Formula' (ahem). Jokes aside, this album takes some listening in order for enjoyment to be gleaned from it. I think of it as being similar in tone to classical score- it takes some effort in order to appreciate it, but when you have acknowledged the uniqueness that lies within, you certainly will not think the 'appreciation time' a waste.
