i remember hearing a couple of tracks from ambulance ltd on mtv a couple of years ago, i liked em but forgot about them. while trawling thru e bay for old cd's i came across their debut album selling for a very reasonable price, after a quick dabble on metacritic to ensure it wasn't a lemon i bought it. the album itself is superb, a bit of elliot smith, here a touch of the kinks there, its also a fine recording that i've played loads since getting it, anyone who has heard "ophelia" or "stay tuned" and liked them will love this.
From opener 'Yoga Means Union' you know that Ambulance Ltd. means brilliance, with a clean appreciation of thumpy bass happy, stomptastic, room bouncing wall beating funky rythems of the opener all the way through to the sunsetting exhausted guitar licks of feel good crash out 'Young Urban'.
A debut that strikes me with the same level of importance to Rage Against The Machine's self-titled debut and musical craftmanship of Coldplay's 'Parachutes'. My favourate track is 'Stay Where You Are', which is running at 21 plays on my iTunes, becuase of its building majestic quality wrapped up in a chord-happy rythem of timley beats with injections of southing lyrical understanding.
With such a strong, interesting, and party thrilling effects (and one not missed by English DJ pioneer Adam Freeland - see 'Back To Mine' - Adam Freeland) this band has somerthing to offer all listeners from the Beatles all the way to Oasis and its only their debut... I'm excited to see where they go.
