  Ripleys Back....

Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) died fighting the perfect predator. Two hundred years and eight horrific experiments later, she's back. A group of scientists have cloned her, along with the alien queen inside her, hoping to breed the ultimate weapon. But the resurrected Ripley is full of surprises for her "creators", as are the aliens. And soon, a lot more than "all hell" breaks loose! To combat the creatures, Ripley must team up with a band of smugglers, including a mechanic named Call (Winona Ryder), who holds more than a few surprises of her own.

This is an in line continuation - along the same lines, but not a rubbish sequel as is often the case, if you like the other alien films then don't miss this!

  E.T. for grown-ups

If Alien 3 was the British contribution to the Alien saga this film must be the French one. Directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet this film has some special characteristics that distingush it from the other Alien movies. It is made by the american film industry for sure, but the director has nevertheless given it his personal signature. The most striking feature in positive sense is the magnificent photography and environmental design. I liked it a lot and it looks very real and credible. I was also very impressed by color and shades in the pictures and art-like surroundings and scenery. So what we might describe as the estethical part of the film is what makes this movie special. In this regard this Alien version is the best of the four films. Which is not that surprising. What I would point at as the negative side of the film is that the story is not too original or inspired. After all, this is science fiction, and then ther's not many restrictions regarding realism. But when the story seems unnatural regarding likeliness, meaning it seems far-fetched or nighmareish/dreamlike it's not successful to my taste. The most obvious example is when Ripley jumps down to the queen-Alien in full labour breeding and this combination of humanoide and alien is given birth (just to surpass Camerons queen-Alien?). Some logical breeches at the end of the movie is also disturbing. I would say this is a typical french fenomenon: high grades on artfulness and estethics but odd twists in the storyline that has no logical function but is put in there just to add some extra spectacularity or juicyness to the story.
Another thing: How is it possibe to use genes from blood of a person and then clone this and up grows the same individual? But worst of all: the alien parasite which Ripley hosted is also joining in as if the Alien's genes was connected to Ripleys genes before she comitted suicide in Alien 3. I know it's science fiction but....
The director also seems very politically correct regarding who are the heroes in this movie. A woman(Ripley), an artifical person, an afro, a disabled sitting in a wheel-chair. And the bad guys exept from the Aliens are some scientist- facist-vivisectionist-males. Very predictable.
I can absolutely recommend this movie to those who liked the foregoing movies because it has some interesting sides and is very well made in it's cartoon-like pictures, but I also guess that those who found Aliens by Cameron to be the best in this series finds this one a bit disappointing.

  Re-born to be Wild!!

The fourth instalment in the 'Alien' series of films may not reach the heights of the first two, but certainly holds its own in the genre. In 'Alien Resurrection' sigourney Weaver returns as a genetically enhanced clone, who this time is more than a match for the acid-blooded xenomorphs, once they are inevitably let loose to wreak havoc.

Credibility is added by a cast of great character actors including Brad Dourif, Dan Hedaya, Michael Wincott and Ron Perlman. Look out for an early role for Gary Dourdan ('Warwick' From CSI: Crime Scene Investigations) as one of the smugglers.

This DVD is presented in 16:9 Anamorphic widescreeen and features 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Extras include the Original Theatrical Trailers and a Behind The Scenes featurette.
