I've been looking at these since they were first released and finally bought one. The likes of Sony and anyone still selling PDA's should be very worried. This thing is tiny, but still very usable, it looks a million dollars and it just works, properly, this is usually a problem with linux devices, but not this one. I'm not 100% sure about the Xandros install, as an experienced linux geek, but there are others (eeebuntu etc.). This would also suffice as a pretty nice ebook reader, one of the reasons I bought it. How well it lasts over time, who knows, but at the price they are almost disposable. This is without doubt the best electronic device I've bought since the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 about 10 years ago.
Just received my new laptop today and all I can say is it is well worth the money. It boots up really fast, has a clear screen and the webcam is great quality. Has everything you expect from a laptop of a large size. I have been having a fight with my 9 year old daughter cause I cant get her off of it lol.
A lot has been said about these PC's over the since their release last year. The one thing that seems to make them stand out is the simple approach to providing a mobile solution to someone who likes to surf the net, check their emails and write documents etc on the move.
The EEE-PC from out of the box is up and running in less than 5mins and if you have access to a wireless network, this takes no more than 10mins tops. I love the simple navigation to features on the Web and the ability to start writing a document without any need for complicated menus
You wouldn't think that your running the Linux Operating system with the GUI interface Asus have built in to the PC. Additional ports mean you can connect USB mouse or keyboards, CD/DVD drives, a external VGA monitor and if you don't have a wireless network their is a 100mps network interface built in. The battery will give you around 3hours usage which isn't bad compared to some of the Bigger laptops. Oh yeah a SD card reader is built to allow you to add more storage to the onboard 4GG SDD (Base model) or to look at your photos or play music.
The other great thing is if you love XP, then the user guide shows you a step by step process to installing XP. However you will loose Linux in the process, but this can be restored using a Restore DVD or a USB flash disk, again full instructions are included.
So in conclusion
This is a great little PC on the go system for those who want a Hassle free, simple to use laptop PC which they can fit in their Bag.
10/10 to Asus and I look forward to the release of the Vista version later this year.
they are great out the box but to truly unlock there potential get your hands on a copy of xp and a external dvd and you'll never look back there lite and well great
