Seller information for an Intel 3.06Ghz Pentium 4 Socket 478 was as accurate as they come, Chip as described, no damage and works well, but didn't give my PC the umph! I expected it to, and that's not the sellers fault at all, just me over expecting a dramtic inprovement in speed, from a 2.8Ghz chip but not to be. So I suppose I'll have to upgrade totally after all. GR8 Seller will use again.
ENSURE IF YOU BUY A CHIP LIKE THIS ONLINE THAT YOU ASK THE SELLER TO PACKAGE VERY CAREFULLY...AS THESE ARE DELICATE AND CAN BE DAMAGED IN TRANSIT......... SO I CAN'T REALLY REVIEW CHIP FULLY AS IT WASN'T PROPERLY PACKAGED...
My Athlon XP1600+ PC was struggling a bit with video capture and editing, but my motherboard was capable of supporting a faster chip. After careful examination of the motherboard manual and the availability of compatible chips on ebay, I chose a second-hand 2800+ variant from the same family of processors as being the most cost-effective upgrade. I needed faster RAM too, to accommodate the faster FSB speed, also found on ebay and imported from the USA for a total cost of half the equivalent from UK sources. The processor chip had been retrieved from another system, and needed careful cleaning to clear the heatsink of old and dry thermally conducting gunk before adding some fresh. The pins were shipped embedded in expanded polystyrene, which I thought was not good electrostatic protection, but it worked as new. So now I have a machine with twice the speed, all for under £50!
