Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.
I really enjoyed watching '40 year old virgin' mainly as i like films with Steve Carell in, which was my main reason for initialy wanting to see it but also turned out to be entertain as a comedy on its own. one of the appealing aspects as a comedy is that the story is believable which makes it both funny, but in reality actually a pretty sad story! without making it a too obvious statement, it helps add to making you feel a sense of sympathy for the actor which is a pretty important aspect producing a movie i guess! it also helps using Steve Carell as the 40 year old virgin as for some reason i can just believe that he actually is, which kinda makes it hard to believe that the film isnt actually real life! anyway, enjoyable film for the family (with late teenagers like myself) as i think anyone younger would be too embarrased with there family! the nice ending really helps you walk away with a sense of enjoyment making it a really entertaining film you wouldnt mind maybe watching again some time, hope you enjoy it as much as it should be enjoyed!
Wasn't really impressed with this film. I saw the title & the adds & expected it to be really funny but when I watched it there was only a few bits that made me laugh throughout. I also found that it just went on and on! Also WTF was with the singing & dancing at the end, it really made it worse!
I liked the look of this as I wanted a film that was for the adults but that wouldn't offend. We had such a great laugh watching this. It's not a kids film, though it is very funny. This is the sort of film you can watch again and again and still laugh.
most people, myslef included, assumed this film would be terrible. Mainly due to the movies' title, the promotional clips and even the text style on the cover. All of these things gave the impression that it was going to be some absolutely terrible 'teen-spoof' movie that are all so popular at the minute. It really isn't. It's typical of the Apatow movies - and thats not meant in a condescending way, this is every bit anchorman and superbad, and as some of the humour is very heavy and 'sick', but does have some serious moments and is a great movie. the film will appeal to everyone as steve carrell really shines as the virgin in question and the supporting cast is perfect.
Above average comedy, but totally unnecessary to show the main character walking about his apartment with an erection beneath his shorts during the opening scenes. Particularly liked to roles that the Asian characters portrayed.
I decided to buy this dvd as I had seen it advertised on another dvd. It looked funny and I thought it would appeal to me. I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Since then, I have sold it on to someone else.
I'm a huge fan of silly comedies! There's nothing better than a film that can get you to laugh for absolutely no reason at all!
40 Year Old Virgin is one of those films. nearly everything that is said and done is soooo wrong but has you smirking and giggling! a great film to watch with your friends!
The cast is great and they hold things together brilliantly.
The best way to sum up the film is to say it's a teen comedy for adults! Steve Carrell is a great comedy actor and has had some great parts over the last couple of years, and he's great in the leading role.
