24 - Series 4 - Complete (DVD)

24 must be one of the best TV shows around. Incredibly exciting, with complex plots, great special effects, and top-notch acting, this is literally edge-of-your-seat television.
Season 4 was not my favourite season, but it was still fantastic. Unlike seasons 2 & 3, it gets going straight away, with a massive train explosion in the first minutes, and you immediately become gripped by the action. The pace is maintained for the first 12 or so episodes, but halfway through it does slow down and begins to drag slightly in comparison. However, even 24 at its slowest is still faster-paced than most shows, and the action soon picks up again with some cracking final episodes that had me actually biting my nails.

As usual the regular actors all do a great job - Jack is intense and sexy, Tony does a brilliant job of portraying a hurt and confused man on the edge of giving up, and Chloe is consistently hilarious in her own off-beat way. The new characters are a bit more hit and miss - Erin Driscoll and Edgar Stiles are both brilliantly portrayed, but Marianne is very cliched, Curtis is boring without any personality, and Audrey is a little annoying - she appears shocked every time Jack has to hit someone.

Overall though it's amazing television, and the sort of programme that once you've bought the boxset, you'll end up watching about 6 episodes in a row because it's so exciting.

The boxset itself is attractively presented - a plastic book-style design with a glossy cover and a cardboard slipcase. I also have to say a word about the special features - WOW! An entire extra disc of features includes:

-Breaking Ground: Building the New CTU (approx 18 minute documentary on building the CTU set and shooting there)
-Blood on the Tracks (approx 15 min documentary on shooting the train explosion, including interviews with the directors and special effects guys)
-Lock and Load (short documentary on the weapons used)
-Nissan Short Film (a beautiful 20 minute promotional film - not much relevance to 24 though!)
-24 The Game (Kiefer Sutherland introduces a behind the scenes look at the PS2 game)
-The Longest Day music video (video for the trance version of the 24 theme)
AND A MASSIVE 40 deleted scenes, which can be watched with or without commentary from director Jon Cassall. Many of them are several minutes long and include entirely new characters or subplots. They also clear up lots of loose ends, such as what happened to Behrooz.

A word of warning though - try not to look at the pictures on the DVD menus, as they often show scenes from the ends of episodes, and can give some of the plot away. Other than that, buy it and enjoy!

Although somewhat predictable, in parts,the plot etc 24 does get better with each series.
I have just finished season 5 and the same goes.
There are not many films where the sequel is as good or better, French Connection 2 being a prime example.
But as pure escapism, and a well made TV series to boot, 24 is good value.

This series is absolutely amazing...it is as great as all the others but the change in story is different and takes a while to get used to...then when you are used to it the series is brilliant and should definitely be watched B-)

Another series of 24, excellent viewing. Each season is just as gripping as the first one, very differnt stories with some relationships surviving to the next story line. This season deals with threats coming from the Middle East, which leads Jack Bauer to work undercover, with many twists and turns. Buying the dvds mean you can watch as much in one viwing as you wish.

This is by far the best of the 24 series, it has everything from the minute go to the end. Jack is in his elemnent and everybody around him.

The best thing about this 24 series is that Sherry Palmer is not in it, thank God.

I did the whole series in under 2 days, I was so hooked, every minute had something happening.

This is another season of suspense, intrigue and Jack Bauer! If you loved the three seasons before, you will love this! Just as addictive and it hasn't lost its edge! We sit for hours unable to turn it off!

What a show it is so good you won't want to stop watching.Jack is back and the action starts,not only is the the best drama you'll see on tv it has the sexiest woman on tv elisha cuthbert is breathtaking.

Jack is back what mor can i say you expect wists and turn and this series delivers just that Can't wait for the next Series.

I have not watcheed it yet but I am on Series 4 having seen 1,2,3 and 6 so I am fairly certain I will enjoy it.

I confess I have never watched any of this series but have now bought series 1-5 for my husband. He never saw it on TV and the first one I got him I bid for it by mistake (don’t ask how -just put down to age) So he watched it and became addicted and wanted more. His report is that it is one of the best series ever made. Keeps him quiet for hours!

If you haven't watched 24 before shame on you! Do not watch season 4 if you haven't watched the previous seasons, Season 4 is as brilliant as the earlier 3 seasons, very fast paced and intense drama, Jack is truly an outstanding actor and brings the character of Bauer alive. This show has a great cast, with each character giving 110% to the show.

Every episode just leaves you wanting more, it is a great and exciting concept.

Series 1,2,and 3 were brilliant! The theme,which had a very positive approach, and ran through the first three series was refreshing and very compulsive viewing. The potential for USA to elect an Afro-American as President is explored in depth and at times very sensitively handled. However, series 4 conforms to type with a storyline that is somewhat fragmented and more 'kitchen sink', with our leading man Mr Bauer, caught up in a romantic tangle that doesn't befit the potential intelligence of the concept of dealing with terrorists. However, being a fan of Keifer Sutherland I was duty bound to watch and will be looking at Series 5 in the hopes that the storyline has regained its sophistication.

This is an excellent box set! with many more great episodes to watch, I bought this box set as I had already seen the previous 3 series. All in all this is a great show, series 4 is full of captivating episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them all! I can't wait to start watching series 5!

Not quite as gripping as the first series but what ever is? but better than 3, 3 had a tendancy to drag during the middle but 4 has kept me on the edge of my seat for every single hour, its great to see old faces re-appearing if a little predictable! The bonus disc contains really watchable stuff like the others so all in all if you havent seen 1, 2 & 3 get them now if you have don't miss series 4!!!

24 at its best!!! Must see. Most of the characters from Series 3 are still in it and it's a pleasure. David Palmer is a brilliant character, if only America could have such a president. The relationship between David Palmer and Jack Bauer is at its strongest. There's definetely the best friendship and trust established there despite the two characters never really meeting.
